Having The Right Attitude

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. Colossians 3v23

I want to help someone out there to add something to his character that will keep him happy every time. You know folks, it is common in people that there are times in life when things don’t go on well and as a result they are always frustrated because of what life brings to them. There is one thing that can help you to stand up in the midst of all these things and still maintain that huge smile; that one thing is called attitude.

People pray, fast, confess, give and preach, but instead of seeing manifestations of better things, God seems to be very silent. It’s not really that God is silent, but what was done was done with the wrong attitude
It is a quality that lacks in many people and the more we don’t have the right one, the more frustrated in life we will be. Just imagine that employee who does literally everything to satisfy his boss, comes to work on time always, does his work in time and in the best way possible, creates and maintains good relations with clients and suppliers, he represents the company well externally, but despite all that effort, he is treated way below his expectations such that even the people he works better than are appreciated more than he is. I tell you, there is every reason for this person to just give up on working hard and doing his best for the success of the company. In such a scenario, there is one thing that can provide the incentive for that person to keep on working hard, and that one thing is called attitude.

Attitude simply means the behavior of a person that shows his opinion and way of thinking, mindset. The best way to see if a person really enjoys what he is doing is not only in how they do it, because some are very good at pretending; but it is in seeing how they do it especially if the environment is not conducive and all the forces are against him working as good as he should. If that employee maintains the same work rate then that can reflect his attitude towards what he is doing.

I want to help some Pastors today. Do not always promote people in your Church because of what you see them do in Church, find time to observe whether they are able to do the same thing when you are not watching them. There are people in Church who only work when the Pastor is watching, to obtain favour from him. Beware of hypocrites. I have noticed at a certain Christian organisation I have been part of that there are some people who only come for services at conferences and big events where they can be seen. After the conference you they will be nowhere to be seen. What really is the problem? It is the attitude.

there are some people who only come
 for services at conferences
Our opening scripture sheds light on attitude. The Bible says servants (employees, subordinates) should obey their masters (employers, superiors, leaders) in all things. I want to put emphasis on the part that says not with eyeservice, as menpleasers.“ There are people who work with eye service; these are people who work with the desire to be seen, to be noticed by their masters. The Bible calls them menpleasers; their goal is to please people, to seek the approval and appreciation of people. This is not the right attitude to imbibe. I want you to look at what happened to Ruth.

And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter. And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech. And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee. Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this? And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab: And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house. Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. Ruth 2v 1-9

The owner of the field not any other
person noticed what Ruth was doing
Ruth worked, but what I want you to notice is that her reward did not come from the farm manager; it did not come from the supervisor or from the foreman. Ruth was noticed by Boaz, and Boaz was the owner of the field. The owner of the field not any other person noticed what Ruth was doing. Jesus said the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. Harvests and labourers are found in the field, that means as Ruth worked and was noticed by the owner of the field, you also must work not to be seen by the supervisor (Pastor, cell-group chairman or the Prophet) but you must work to please the Owner of the field. The Bible calls Him the Lord of the Harvest (Luke 10v2) and His Name is God. This is the reason why our opening scripture says whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.Never work to be seen by people, work so that God can see you. It is your attitude that will take you far.
I remember where I come from some years ago people would sabotage going to work because they were not receiving their salaries. This is a clear representation of people who work with the wrong attitude. The day that you will understand that no one on this planet is rich enough to employ you you will work more diligently, with better zeal and passion, with a better attitude. It is only God who affords your salary, no boss can bless you, no boss can anoint you, but God can. Whatever you do, do it with all your heart like the person who has been given the task by God himself. Do things on time, do things happily, maximize the effort you put in it. Even if people do not notice or they don’t pay you but rather despise you, remember that it is God who rewards you not people. It is the owner of the field who will notice and pay you, not the supervisor and not the foreman. Your attitude (behavior which reflects your opinion and mindset) will help you to be strong even if every environment is inconducive. Just think of Joseph, the boy was persecuted by his own brothers, people who were at a point in time his role models, the ones he loved so much and from whom he expected much love (Luke 12v48). Joseph was rejected by his own brothers and was sold to a foreign land. When he got there he was at some time imprisoned and suffered so much, but despite all this, he remained with a good attitude. When his brothers came begging for food, he did not scold them or hate them, but because of a positive attitude, he accommodated them and fared well for them, talk about attitude.
Wrong attitude is the reason why some good things done do not attract the good results associated with them. People pray, fast, confess, give and preach, but instead of seeing manifestations of better things, God seems to be very silent. It’s not really that God is silent, but what was done was done with the wrong attitude.

Do things with all your heart. Even if your boss is too harsh and not a person who understands, just don’t worry about it, do your work with all your heart. Even if you are working with people who hate you and despise everything that you do, continue your work
God who rewards you, God is your employer
with a huge smile on your face. Even if the bosses don’t pay you, come early to work every day, do every task in time, relate well with suppliers, with clients and with customers; after all, it is God who rewards you, God is your employer, He sees in secret and He rewards you openly. Never work with the perception that you are working for man; you work for God, even in that Micro-Finance firm, God is still on the throne. It will not be long before all those who despise you will look up to you. This is all possible if you develop the right attitude towards life. Do not murmur, do not complain. Enjoy everything as it comes and your attitude will get you a Boaz, it will make you a governor over your boss’ things. Attitude!!!
Stay blessed and like I always say,
Jesus is Lord!!!! TLG
